Locally known as Stirling Road and 60th street, State Road 848 is a 4.07-mile-long east–west commuter highway in Broward County. Its western terminus is an intersection with US 441/SR 7 in Hollywood; its eastern terminus is an intersection with Federal Highway (US 1/SR 5) in downtown Dania Beach. The speed limit is 45 miles per hour (72 km/h) for the length of the State Road.
State Road 848 begins at the intersection between US 441/SR 7 and Stirling Road in Hollywood, at the eastern end of the Hollywood Seminole Indian Reservation and just east of Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Hollywood. SR 848 takes Stirling Road east as a four lane divided highway into Hollywood, through mostly residential areas, scattered with commercial businesses. East of the intersection with Lakeshore Drive, SR 848 forms the southern boundary with Dania Beach, as the road becomes more commercial, quickly approaching the interchange with Interstate 95. At the southeast corner of the interchange with Interstate 95 (SR 9) was the site of Six Flags Atlantis, a water park that was in existence in the 1980s and early 1990s. After the closing and demolition of the park, the Oakwood Plaza shopping center was built in its place. Just east of the shopping center, Stirling Road crosses a canal and leaves Hollywood and enters Dania Beach, through more commercial establishments before terminating at US 1.[1][2]
West of US 441/SR7, SR 848 extends another 9.5 miles (15.3 km), entering the Hollywood Seminole Indian Reservation, which includes the Seminole Okalee Indian Village and Museum, Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Hollywood, and Ah-Tha-Thi-Ki Museum. Stirling Road leaves the reservation as it crosses Florida's Turnpike without an interchange, passing through Cooper City and Davie (where it intersects Davie Road) to a dead end 0.5 miles (0.80 km) west of Interstate 75 (SR 93). Stirling Road has several other, disconnected, sections between the dead end and US 27 (SR 25).[1][2]
The entire route is located in Broward County.
